162-0

So the Pirates won today.

Once more, the Pirates won today.

Alright, I figure I might as well say it as many times now as I can because who knows how many times it will actually happen this season. I'm not expecting a lot from the Buccos this year, but at the same time, part of me thinks they're going to win the pennant ala the Rays of last season (hey, don't ever say I'm not an optimist).

I'm really hopeful for a few reasons, mainly because I feel that Neil Huntingdon and Frank Coonelly are the right people to turn this organization around, even if Bob Nutting is the worst owner in the history of professional sports. Drafting and signing (and signing again) Pedro Alvarez was a huge step in the right direction as well as locking up McClouth, Doumit, and Maholm through their arbitration years. Jose Tabata looks promising (worst case scenario is his wife steals a couple....nevermind those jokes have been used and abused already), Andrew McCutcheon is a star in the making and we should see him in Pittsburgh this summer, and worst case scenario if the season goes down hill quickly, there's always those defending Super Bowl Champions that play across the parking lot.

Schoolwise, I'm having a blast (who knew doing work could be fun?) even if I feel kind of overwhelmed at times. Working on a couple projects right now and hopefully I'll be able to link them here when they're done.

I'm also trying to figure out what to do this summer. I need to do an internship to get credits to graduate (ETA: Dec'09) so we will see what is going on with that.

Poker is going well right now, I'm on a bit of a heater to start off April, which is nice, but that's kind of the same way I started off March and then it went to total shit, so we will see if I can turn it around and have a decent month playin the ol' 100NLHU.

That's all I have for now, I think. Graph below.

Guess who's back?

So, yea, I know it's been a long ass time since I've updated this, but I'm going to try to get back into this a little bit. So much is going on/has gone on in my life, I really don't even know where to begin, so I'll just skip forward to the present day. I switched from 6max to HU (heads up, 1-on-1) poker full time. I felt really bad about leaving the stake with Rod and Jesse, but it was just something that I had to do, I wasn't growing as a player, wasn't winning (2.5 months straight or so) and was genuinely miserable most of the time. I owe so much to those two (especially Jesse) for everything that they did for more to help me and believe in me at the start.

Now while playing HU I'm on a different stake/coaching agreement with Zach (cwik) and Matt (Acid_Knight). These two guys really know their shit too. I've definitley lucked out to be able to work with some great coaches so far. I haven't really been able to play a lot because of school (really working hard on trying to get stuff done and get good grades + I want to graduate in December) but the hands that I time that I have put in has been a fun learning experience.

I played a session today for the first time in 11 days (break because of downswing as well as being super busy with school/life) and it went pretty well, so here's the graph for today:

Tonight a bunch of my friends and I are going down to the Southside to watch two of our good friends play their first official headlining show. Mike Medved and Conner Gilbert are performing at Club Cafe tonight in the Southside of Pittsburgh. Doors open at 6, show starts at 7 and ends at 9. Tickets are only $10. Hopefully if you're 21 and in the Pittsburgh area you can come down and check it out, it should be great.

That's all I have for now, hopefully I can think of some stuff from the past 6 months or so to talk about for the next couple entries.

August is a wrap

So as you can see, I didn't play anywhere near the amount of hands that I wanted to this month. 31K is still a respectable amount, but, meh. I moved back to school almost 2 weeks ago and didn't play very much since then. I've been so busy that I just haven't had the time to play. Between PAHUD not working and my kinda running bad on the school IP (obv rigged) I just couldn't find the time or motivation to play much.

I'm working on saving up for a new computer, I'm going to get a desktop I think, and once I get that I should be able to grind a good bit again. I'm gonna be using Holdem Manager on that computer, as it seems to be far better then PT3 from what I've heard.

That's all I got for now,
Sean

It's been a while

Ya, so it's been a while hasn't it? I'm gonna keep this short, as I'm going to bed soon.

I move back to school on Wednesday and am pretty happy about that. Really looking forward to this year as it should be the best one yet and I've had three pretty good years there so far.

I finished my internship on Sunday and we had a company picnic today. It was a really good time. It was a great experience and I worked with some really good people. Hopefully they enjoyed working with me as much as I enjoyed working with them.

I wrote the game write-up for the website on my last day there, here's the link to it, let me know what you think of it. http://www.washingtonwildthings.com/2008scores/wsh8170.html

This month has gone extremely well poker wise. I am having a great month as you can see by the graph below.Everything just seems like it is clicking for me right now. I owe so much to Jesse for taking the time to work with me and basically reteach me to play.

The breakdown on that graph is 19,856 hands at 25NL for $1,068.52 profit and 6,949 hands at 50NL for $548.00 profit. Definately a good month. I've also moved into 50NL for what hopefully is full time, but I'm not afraid to move back down if need be.

That's all for now, can't wait to get back to school, do well, grind hard, and have the time of my life living up my senior year.

Swongs.

Wow. It's been a couple of days. I haven't really had much to blog about lately. Until today.

Today started off as by far the worst day of the stake. I couldn't play at all last night because my laptop crashed (blue screen of death) and then when I got it back up and running again everything worked fine except for PokerTracker. So I went to the Challenge thread to ask for help and RDog said I should convert my database to PostgreSQL. I did. Except it took all night and by the time it was done I was too tired to play, so I went to bed, thinking that I could get off monkey tilt since it was fixed.

I was wrong. Woke up today and went to play and the HUD (program that displays stats of opponents on table) that I was using wasn't able to read my PostgreSQL database. So I spent this afternoon frantically being on life tilt and trying to play while I didn't have a HUD. Didn't work out to well. I basically didn't play horribly, but didn't play optimally. I didn't run very well either and got into some shitty spots. Basically I lost like 7BI this afternoon/evening.

Then I decided that I was going to make the leap and download PokerAceHUD and finally after a ton of tinkering got it to work and then paid for it and set it up (if anyone knows where I can get some layouts for PAHud, let me know, please. I know there's a link somewhere on the CardRunners forums that has a bunch of PAHud layouts including CTS', so if you can find this, let me know.)

I took a break and decided that I was going to come back and grind for a little bit of four-tabling and really try to work on playing well. (Much to the chagrin of one of my backers, although once I told him I felt I was playing well and would stop if that changed, he was ok with it).

I was lucky enough to find some fish tonight and ended up winning some big pots (including ones with black chips {$100} at 25NL!)

This one started my nice rush I limped the button with 79s because the limper had limp-raised me several times and I wanted to see a flop. When the SB raised and the limper called I figured I might as well see a flop and try to flop gin. On the flop SB INSTAcalls my shove and I almost puked because that's how my day was going to that point:

This guy was a pretty big fish:

Same guy as last one, sick hold:

First hand vs fish that established that he was a fish, at this point he was an unknown and folding crossed my mind, even if momentarily:

And last hand, one of the earlier hands of the session, took place before the last three, nice line?:

And my total graph for 25NL for the month:

In other news, I really need a new computer if I'm going to continue to grind a decent amount because my laptop just isn't cutting it. I was looking at this today and if anyone has any thoughts, let me know. I plan on having one of my buddies (Muggli, what up!) put XP whatever computer I decide to get as I don't really feel like dealing with all of Vista's bullshit.

Well, I don't think I have too much more to add at the moment, as always, if you read this and have any questions or comments for me, feel free to leave them on here of IM me on AIM if you have it.

Non Showdown Troubles

Is this pretty standard for 1. 6-max and 2. micro stakes like 25NL? I should be losing money in non showdown pots because when they show a lot of aggression, they have it, right? I'm not too sure. If anyone has any theories or suggestions, please let me know as I'd like to get that green line a lot closer to blue (and ideally above it).

Night class test tomorrow (Wed) hopefully I can ship that! Also, night class means I get out of the doubleheader tomorrow at my internship since tonight's game got suspended due to rain, weeeee. I love baseball and the internship is great, it can just be grueling at times and it feels like the team is in town every day.

Nothin much really to say today, just want to work on winning in non showdown pots. I need to get back to watchin a lot of vids, I've sorta slacked off in that dept lately to log a bunch of hands.

GL at the tables,
-Sean
